Zenyard at Skylab: a movable hangout space for students
Every campus needs a place where students can relax and spend time together. For Skylab, we built Zenyard, a movable outdoor lounge on wheels. It is easy to rearrange and reuse, and every fire entry and exit point stays clear.
Challenge
Skylab wanted a welcoming space where students could spend time together outside. It had to be comfortable and flexible, and above all safe, the layout could not block any fire entry or exit points. It also needed to adapt to different uses and moments, rather than being fixed in one place.
Our solution
We designed Zenyard around a lounge setup on wheels, so the whole space can be moved and rearranged whenever needed. The layout was planned so every fire entry and exit point stays clear and accessible. The result is a relaxed outdoor lounge that feels informal for students while meeting the safety requirements of the site.
Outcome
Zenyard gave Skylab a flexible space that students could make their own. Because it is movable, it can adapt to events, seasons and new layouts, and it can last far beyond a single use.
